Tishrei

Tishrei – the month that begins the Hebrew year.  The source of the name Tishrei comes from Babylonian, from the Aramaic language, “tashritu,” which means – beginning.  Within this month falls Rosh Hashanah, on which we blow the shofar, whose voice awakens our heart to full alertness, so that we can improve our deeds and begin a better year.  In this painting, I have created a figure of a Jewish woman standing at a gate and blowing a shofar.  The gate symbolizes the transition – opening a new door, and the pomegranates, which are also connected with this month, symbolize the good deeds that suffuse the people of Israel. “Tishrei” is a painting full of hope and a symbol of new beginnings…
