Magen David

The Magen David, or Star of David, is a symbol composed of two triangles, one of which faces upwards and the other faces downwards, and this symbol has many interpretations.  One interpretation is that the connection between the two triangles symbolizes the connection between Heaven and Earth.  According to Jewish tradition, this symbol was engraved on shields of soldiers fighting for King David.  I chose this symbol in the painting to represent the coming of redemption.  Moshiach ben David (Messiah, son of David) enters my painting through the Magen David, riding on a white donkey, according to the vision of the prophet Zechariah:  “Behold, your king comes to you, he is triumphant, and victorious, lowly, and riding upon a donkey” (Zechariah 9:9). This painting was created with the anticipation of the complete and final redemption, may it come speedily in our time—Amen!
