Face

This painting is a self-portrait, one of many I’ve created.  During the period when I was just starting out on my artistic journey, I chose to focus specifically on painting my own face because I felt like through this work on my self-portrait, I was actually undergoing a process of introspection – from my face to my innermost self (in Hebrew, the word “panim,” face, is closely related to the word “pnim,” meaning inner or inward).  There, I managed to meet my spirit more deeply and from there, my soul; it’s not by chance that we say that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. This painting, “Face,” reminds the viewer to look within even with eyes wide open, staring at the exterior.
