The Gates of Heaven

There are certain times when the gates of heaven are open, for instance while the Holy Ark is open, while taking out the Torah before reading it to the crowd of daveners, during prayers on holidays and it is known that a tear also opens the gates of heaven.

In my painting, I depicted a blowing of the Shofar that opens heaven’s doors.
When I hear a blowing of a Shofar on Yom Kippur for example, I can literally imagine in my eyes how the gates of heaven open up and the sound of the Shofar echoes from below to upper halls.

“The sound of a wheel rolling from the bottom up,

Clogged carriages keep rolling.

A pleasant voice rises and falls,

Goes and wanders the world.

The sound of a Shofar continues in the depths of the stairs,

And spins the wheel around” (words from the Holy Zohar).
