The Light of the Mountain

After Moses ascended to Mount Sinai to receive the Torah, he
descended as the skin of his face, beaming with light ("…the
skin of his face sent forth beams", Exodus, 34, 30).
On top of the mountain, Moses stood face to face with
Hashem, having a mighty spiritual experience – a spiritual
elevation upon receiving the Torah that is full of light.
While descending from the mountain, the glow of the Torah
shone on Moses, not aware of this glow. Yet, Aharon his
brother and the people of Israel were, thus they were afraid to
approach him. They waited until Moses called them to reach
closer to him to give them the Torah of Hashem.
In this painting, the mountain is full of smoke, and the light of
Hashem is shining on it.
