Rachel’s Tomb

Our mother Rachel was buried at the crossroads in Beit Lehem, and there, according to the words of the prophet Jeremiah (Yirimyahu), she weeps for the Nation of Israel, “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are not” (Jeremiah 31:14).  This verse describes the voice of Rachel, which is heard throughout time, and the long-awaited redemption is also attributed to her when the Holy One Himself comforts her, saying, “Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, says HASHEM… and your children shall return to their own border” (Jeremiah 31:15). I created this painting out of my great love for Rachel as a mother figure, and for her burial place, where I find myself often, a place where I and many others have prayed throughout the generations.
