Jacob’s Ladder

I created this painting inspired by a story from among the Tales of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, in which he relates the story of a princess who is lost and the king who greatly mourns her loss and sends his servants to seek her out.  In the depths of the story lies a hint to us about our soul, which has lost its purpose within this world and is imprisoned in a place which is not suitable for it.  In this painting, I’ve drawn on motifs from within the story, creating the horse in the front of the painting by itself after the king’s second-in-command has left it and gone off to seek the princess on the “mountain of gold and castle of pearls.”
