Praying is a positive commandment (Mitzvat Aseh) written in the Torah and prayer (Tefilah) is the force that binds a man with his Creator.
In this painting of the praying Jew, we can observe from the one hand the letters of the prayer and from the other hand the notes.
In Judaism, there is a direct connection between praying and singing. During the days of the Temple, every prayer was accompanied by the singing of the Levites.
Nowadays, as the Temple does not exist, we can only wish for the Levites to return to the singing.
