Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochay

The Tana Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, who lived in the second generation after the destruction of the second Temple, was a disciple of Rabbi Akiva, who said “It is enough that I and you Creator know your strength!”

Rabbi Shimon lived during hard times for Judaism in which the Romans ruled the land of Israel and haunted every person who kept Torah and Mitzvos.

Rabbi Shimon hid himself from the Romans in a cave and secretly kept learning the Torah for 30 years, in which he managed to write the secrets of the Torah in the book “HaZohar”.

Every Lag Ba’omer, we celebrate Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai’s annual revelry (Hilulah) for his passing day in Meiron.

In this painting, I portrayed his face as it has passed through the generations.

May his right protect us – Amen.
