The king’s daughter symbolizes the soul, taken down to this world to search for what it has lost and complete its perfection.

The king’s daughter in the story is gone missing and the king sends his viceroy to search for her. Riding on his donkey, he goes looking and asking for her to and fro – in the woods, fields and deserts. While on his way, he also goes through hardships and challenges, sacrificing everything to find and bring her back home to the king, who misses her dearly.

In the painting, the viceroy appears, riding on his donkey, on his way to the mountain of gold and the fort of gems, where he was told that the King’s daughter is found.
